ANDREW DUGGAN

Bare I + II

Presented here for INP3 are two short looped video/audio pieces created in collaboration with dancers from The National Folk Theatre of Ireland. Bare I + II is designed to be played singularly or simultaneously.

Andrew Duggan's artworks and participatory projects collate fact/folk/lore with a new visual syntax. His work has been described as a collision between 'a past' [incident/event /legacy] and 'now' [codes of representation/transmission]. Often working with cultural institutions he presents the viewer and participants with new relationships between accepted praxis . Andrew's work is rooted is our cultural/social value and belief systems, and political structures that generate these systems.

Andrew Duggan was the first artist to be awarded the prestigious Arts Council of Ireland Location One Fellowship in New York City. Since the Location One Residency in 2005/2006 Andrew's work has been presented in Philadelphia, Italy, Slovakia, Lituatinia and New York. In August 2008 his work will be shown as part of Urban identity - Video Art & Architecture event at Digital Art Expo International in the Gallery Row area of Downtown Los Angeles. He has been invited to be a part of Phase 2 of The Folk Archive, an on-going piece of research CityArts are running in partnership with Interface at the University of Ulster.
