Dusk Aperture
We live essentially in a post-agricultural society, where the 'rural' is a contested zone under enormous pressure. As we attempt to re-articulate the term 'rural' within this current situation, my practice considers aspects of 'the rural' as sites of intellectual and cultural stutterings. Exploring the rural aesthetic, visuals representing farming and the rural person's relationship to land, all form part of my current practice. Through use of video, photography, and installation, I attempt to represent 'the rural', as a dynamic, unstable, contested and intriguing cultural site, and primarily focus attention on 'the rural' as a context.
'Dusk Aperture' is a time-lapsed piece which condenses the hour at dusk when the roads in rural areas are busy with traffic returning from a day's work in nearby towns.
